The LaMaster Dairy Center of Clemson University has a goal of providing quality animals for research, teaching, and extension projects as well as quality genetics and dairy products for breeders and consumers in the area and worldwide. Located within a mile from Clemson University's campus, the LaMaster Dairy houses a milking parlor, experimental barn, calf barn, free stalls, pastures, feed storage, a classroom and teaching facility as well as an office all laying on about 677 acres of land. About 150 cows are milked daily in a herringbone milking parlor composing of Holstein, Jersey, Brown Swiss and Guernsey cattle. Current research being conducted at the dairy is in the dairy cattle nutrition field.
Recently the dairy has been under construction for the past year and a half. Beginning early 2016, the LaMaster Dairy Center begun renovations for a new free stall barn, office space, and robotic milkers which will house 150 cows in hopes to provide comfort for the cattle. The dairy also hopes it will provide students and professors with a new and improved dairy operation to better innovate the dairy industry of South Carolina!
